First® vs LegalZoom

LegalZoom does not sell its own prenup. Couples who go to LegalZoom for a prenuptial agreement are directed to HelloPrenup's platform.

Here is what that means, and how First compares.

Featured in

Why do couples choose First® for their prenup online?

Most platforms get you a prenup. First gives you one you can feel sure about.

Every agreement is drafted around your situation and your state's laws, online notarization is included, and the price you see is the price you pay. Couples rate First 5.0 on Google, the highest among the online prenup platforms we compared.

This decision deserves a high standard.

Step 1 Icon

Know who you are buying from

LegalZoom is a legal services brand, but its prenup is HelloPrenup's product. HelloPrenup is LegalZoom's exclusive prenup partner, and couples who come to LegalZoom for a prenup are directed to HelloPrenup. With First, the platform, the process, and the attorney work all happen with First.

See how First compares to HelloPrenup.
Step 1 Icon

Custom drafted for you, not a template

Unlike templates that LegalZoom sells, every First prenup is drafted for your situation and your state's laws. The guided questionnaire and alignment module gather what your agreement needs and creates a custom prenup specific to you and your partner. Not a one-size-fits-all template.
Step 1 Icon

Attorney representation, specific for First customers

LegalZoom offers subscriptions with limited access to their lawyer network, typically for initial consulations that can lead to more billable fees. First's Lawyer Review and Bespoke packages include independent representation for each partner by attorneys who have been vetted, approved, and trained on First's platform. You know what you'll pay up front and your attorney is not incentivized to lengthen the process.
Step 1 Icon

Transparent, inclusive pricing

LegalZoom and HelloPrenup provide base pricing or subscriptions and then charge separately for add-ons, including items like attorney time and notarization.1 First's pricing includes everything up front; the only add-on being Rush Service, if needed, on our Lawyer Review and Bespoke packages.
Step 1 Icon

Highest-rated for online prenups

First is the #1 customer-rated prenup service on both Trustpilot (4.8 rating) and Google Reviews (5.0 rating).2 We believe in showing up for our customers, not just signing them up.
Step 1 Icon

Purpose-built for prenups

First is not a legal template company. It was founded to help you and your partner align on finances and solidify those discussions in a prenup you both feel good about. The First prenup experience is designed to make each step easy, insightful, and productive while being tailored to your state and personal financial situation.
1Notarization available in all states where remote online notarization is legally accepted. First cannot provide online notarization in states that do not accept remote online notarization, or where the state requires an in-person notary process (like Louisiana).

“My first (and last) prenup was a breeze with First. The platform itself was virtually flawless and we were impressed with our lawyers. My lawyer, Lars, was a superstar!”

“The self-service option allowed us to go through an expedited prenup process and have the meaningful discussions we wanted to about our marriage, just in time for the wedding itself. The process was easy (as easy as legalese can be!), quick, and affordable.”

First vs LegalZoom: Pricing, Attorney Review & Coverage FAQ

Does LegalZoom make its own prenup?

No. LegalZoom announced a partnership with HelloPrenup in May 2026, and couples who go to LegalZoom for a prenuptial agreement are directed to HelloPrenup's platform. HelloPrenup describes itself as LegalZoom's exclusive prenup partner. With First, the platform, process, and attorney work is all executed through First.

How much does a LegalZoom prenup cost?

As of July 2026, LegalZoom's prenup is HelloPrenup's product, priced at $599 for the couple. Online notarization is $50 ($649 total). Attorney representation is $799 per partner ($1,598 for both) in addition to the $599 base price plus any other add-ons and upsells by the attorneys, which is disclosed once a couple is engaged with counsel.

First's Self-Serve package is $649 with online notarization included free, everywhere remote online notarization is accepted. The Lawyer Review package, which includes two independent attorneys, drafting, revisions, and online notarization, is $3,500 flat - no surprises or hourly billing. Bespoke package price is based on the requirements of each engagement and is for the most complex situations.

Does First's Self-Serve prenup include an attorney?

No. Self-Serve is a guided package at $649 with online notarization included, and you and your partner complete the agreement yourself using our platform. Every agreement is built on a foundation designed with family law attorneys. Attorney review comes with the Lawyer Review and Bespoke packages. Like LegalZoom, First is not a law firm.

Who drafts a First prenup?

Every agreement drafted on First's platform is custom for your situation and your state's laws. The guided questionnaire and alignment module gather what your agreement needs and creates a prenup specific to you and your partner. With the Lawyer Review and Bespoke packages, independent attorneys refine the language with you directly via the First platform. Nothing is assembled from a fixed template.

Do I need a notary for a prenup to be valid?

It depends on your state. A prenup generally must be in writing and signed before marriage, but notarization requirements vary. Some states require notarization or formal acknowledgment; others, including California, do not require notarization for validity, though notarizing is often recommended to create a clear record of who signed and when. First includes online notarization as part of every prenup package where remote online notarization is legally available. Through LegalZoom's partner HelloPrenup, notarization is a $50 add-on.

Can I switch to First if I already started a prenup somewhere else?

Yes. Nothing carries over automatically, and you would complete First's questionnaire and alignment module from the start.
